Rock Military Chic…Without Wearing Camouflage
Louis Vuitton has a new range of monogrammed, camouflage bags. And yes, they are as hideous as they sound.
I can’t stand the “typical” Military Chic styles. The kind of clothes the pop starlets wear ala Britney or Rhianna. Sure, Rihanna has a past as a military cadet but lets be real,
The fugly balmain jacket costs upwards of $4500.. Would any one normal be caught dead in this?
Most fashion looks seen are a strange, retro type of military – something from the times of Napoleon. The good news, there is a modern military look.
Military chic must be comfortable, first and foremost. Don’t over do it, or you’ll end up looking like a ridiculous parody of an army girl.
I don’t reccomend wearing the camouflage of your country, as a former soldier, I find it mildly offensive when civilians wear the uniform I worked hard to earn the right to wear… If that doesn’t bug you, then by all means, wear it! Rihanna gets it right with this lovely cammo scarf.
Never ever ever wear ribbons or medals as a fashion accessory. This is just downright offensive. Military medals should only be worn by the person who earned them or their offspring, on ceremonial occasions (ie. Memorial day, ANZAC day, etc). That includes replicas. But! You could always find something that looks similar to a ribbon and use it in a different manner.. like a hair barrette
To get your arms in shape for wearing a simple tank, try the 100 push ups a day program. It rocks for increasing your push up strength and the shape of your arms and shoulders. Push ups also strengthen your core.
A military style jacket can look fantastic. Check out Jessica Simpson and Taylor Swift, looking like a vintage spy in this gorgeous cream jacket.
Wear minimal makeup, stick to the basics of mascara and bronzer for a sunkissed look
Soldiers in uniform have regulations on how to wear their hair, so when wearing a modern military chic look, make sure you keep your frizzies tamed and away from your face.
Most military uniforms have some form of epaulettes. To add an easy military touch wear a fitted shirt with epaulettes and a pair of designer dog tags.
If you’re not a fan of camouflage pants, wear black or khaki cargo pants or capris. Make sure they are comfortable. Team with a black or white tank top to show off your brilliant arms.
Some of my favorite items are in the polyvore above. All you really need? A black military cap, aviator glasses, a tank top, cargo pants and a bit of attitude.
